VISION
Die AUSWIRKUNGEN des Klimawandels verstehen und LÖSUNGEN für den Klimawandel finden.
Mitten in der Klimakrise müssen wir weiterhin Erkenntnisse über die Auswirkungen der globalen Erwärmung auf empfindliche Ökosysteme wie die Polarregionen gewinnen und gleichzeitig vom Wissen zum Handeln übergehen, um Wege zur Eindämmung des Klimawandels zu finden.
MISSION
Das Marine Applied Research Laboratory will unser Verständnis der Prozesse verbessern, die zur Kohlenstoffbindung im Ozean führen: von der Primärproduktivität an der Oberfläche bis zum Kohlenstoffexport in die Tiefsee.
Aufbauend auf unserem fundierten Wissen über Messungen der Primärproduktivität, Quantifizierung der Kohlenstoff- und Nährstoffaufnahme, Schätzungen der Artenvielfalt, Weideexperimente und biogeochemische Modellierung wollen wir
1) Untersuchung der Folgen des Klimawandels im Arktischen Ozean für die Primärproduktivität, die Artenvielfalt und die Effizienz des trophischen Transfers.
2) Bewertung des Potenzials von Makroalgen für die langfristige Entfernung und Speicherung von Kohlendioxid im Ozean.
