Standard Meteorological Measurements
At the Meteorological Observatory Neumayer the standard parameters temperature, humidity, wind and air pressure are continuously measured. For this a measurement site some 300m south-east of the main station building is maintained. The site was chosen such that the influence from the main station building is minimised. At the measurement site there is a 10m-mast with sensors at 2m and 10m level, a central electrical cabinet, as well as two more racks for radiation measurements. As around Neumayer-Station there is about 1m of annual snow accumulation, all cable routeing at the site is above the snow surface.
Data is acquired at various temporal resolutions (every 1 to 6 seconds). From this minutely averages are calculated which are then globally distributed and archived in Pangaea.
All measuring devices at the meteorological site are checked and cleaned as needed at least once per day by the overwinterer Meteorology. Measurements get distorted by meteorological phenomena such as rime and glaze or by snow. Since the site is inspected daily, technical issues are usually detected and removed quite timely. All acquired data is validated and cleaned also on a daily basis.
