Helmholtz- Imaging picture contest 2023

Helmholtz Imaging searches each year the best scientific image, which was awarded to Timan Bucher (DLR) and Angelika Humbert (AWI) in 2023 (3rd place). The image is acquired with the MACS airborne system over Nioghalvfjedersbræ in North-East Greenland showing a supraglacial lake that has drained. The dark colors show sediments like dust at the glacier surface. The fracture through which the lake drained to the base is visible as a line-like feature.

The AWI ISMIP6 members are Thomas Kleiner and Angelika Humbert, who contributed with projections for the ice sheets in Antarctica and Greenland.
