Since 1993, a meteorological surface measurements are operated at the AWIPEV research base. The values of temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and direction are registered every minute. While the data with high time resolution are commonly used for the analysis of small scale processes in the atmosphere (e.g. effect of katabatic winds), the long-term observations since 1993 allow the detection of climate change signals, that are analyzed in the Atmospheric Physics section.

AWI operates similar meteorological measurements at the Antarctic Neumayer station.
