MUSES

Our oceans are faced with ever growing anthropogenic pressures by expanding human activities in offshore areas. This blue growth of marine industries is raising the demand for ocean space and gives rise to stakeholder conflicts. To ensure further sustainable growth while making the best possible use of available ocean resources, it is paramount to find synergies between uses and users to share space and reduce costs. Multi-use of space and resources offers an approach to such a goal but still holds many pitfalls and barriers.

The MUSES project will identify those barriers as well as potential impacts, drivers and the added value of multi-use scenarios in European Seas as well as offer a succinct analysis of the status quo of multi-use development and options for the future. The MUSES consortium, comprised of 10 partners spanning the European Union, takes a sea basin approach and analyses all 5 European sea basins. Special case studies are set within each sea basin.

These results will flow into a custom tailored action plan for key stakeholders on the relevant levels to further the sustainable development of ocean resources across European seas.
