Astacus stock raise
In terms of new aquaculture species for land-based, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) to face stagnating and declining fishery production - the noble crayfish Astacus astacus is a promising candidate.
The following aspects were investigated as part of the Astacus Stock Raise project in order to evaluate the suitability of RAS for noble crayfish production,:
Ø system design,
Ø biological needs and
Ø economic feasibility
This project was conducted in close cooperation with the following partners: Forellen- und Edelkrebszucht Poggenhagen, Universität Koblenz-Landau and Edelkrebszucht am Schloß.
