Crab Lab: Enzymes – Critters – Ecosystems
All biological processes are run or controlled by enzymes. They facilitate intracellular metabolic reactions, provide nutrients, and are the drivers of global nutrient cycles.
The molecular and catalytic properties of enzymes provide important information about evolutionary traits and functional adaptations of molecules and, consequently, organisms. We study the physiology of digestion, food utilization, and all aspects of nutrition in invertebrates, preferably in crustaceans. Moreover, we evaluate these enzymes for their potential biotechnological applications.
