The Helmholtz Climate Initiative REKLIM ("Regionale Klimaänderungen"/Regional Climcate Change), coordinated by the Alfred Wegener Institute, is one of 190 featured exhibitors at the 5th "Woche der Umwelt" (Week of the Environment) - an environmental exhibition of the Federal President and the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). The event will take place on 7 and 8 June 2016 in Berlin's Schloss Bellevue and presents the topic "Environmental Protection" with its associated economic and social chances to thousands of invited guests.
The REKLIM team will introduce its work to the visitors on both days: Science to Society. This includes, for example, the German drought monitor, the online platform meereisportal.de (awarded last year by the German initiative "Land of Ideas") and the climate monitor for Northern Germany. In addition, the climate scientists - together with students of the DEKRA University Berlin - show documentaries on selected REKLIM research topics, which were developed in a joint interdisciplinary media project. Another joint project was realized with the district school Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg: its pupils show a spatial installation and drawings about permafrost.
The REKLIM team will be one of 190 exhibitors from Germany and Switzerland, which will present themselves in the castle's park on specific issues like climate protection, energy, resources, soil and biodiversity, mobility and transport, construction and housing. Parallel to the exhibition, there will be a high level and diverse range of lectures and discussions. On the main stage leading representatives from politics, business, science and society will discuss in moderated discussions on the key issues. Moreover, 70 to 80 professional forums with some 400 experts are offered on current sustainability issues.
Participation in the environmental exhibition of the German Federal President is by invitation only. Those who wish to participate, please contact Dr Renate Treffeisen. More information about the event (in German language) can be found at: www.woche-der-umwelt.de.
