The doors of our Wadden Sea Station on Sylt were open to the public on Saturday, 7 September - and the interest of Sylt residents, islanders and tourists in celebrating our 100th birthday was huge.
More than 500 visitors took advantage of the wide range of activities on offer and learned about the current research. For example, they were able to playfully explore the food web of the Wadden Sea and learn about the protective role of seagrass meadows in the wave channel. An exhibition provided insights into measurement methods and research diving then and now. Children had the opportunity to take part in a rally or slip into the role of a research diver. Many guests also visited the Mya II in Lister harbour. Hands-on science fascinated young and old alike. Visitors asked our researchers their questions and engaged in lively discussions with them. Our Wadden Sea Station was colourful and lively right up to the last minute.
