Science journalist Tim Kalvelage receives the Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Science Journalism 2021 in the text category.
In addition to two articles in Die Zeit and Süddeutsche Zeitung, he convinced the jury with a text for whose research he accompanied an expedition on the research ship Maria S. Merian under the leadership of Wilken-Jon von Appen from the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in the summer of 2020. The jury explains as follows: "In his reportage 'Alles fließt' for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Tim Kalvelage describes how the Arctic ecosystem changes when the sea ice disappears. He succeeds impressively in bringing out the scientific urgency of the expedition as well as the curiosity-driven driving force of the researchers involved." The AWI warmly congratulates on the award, which has been honouring outstanding achievements in the field of science journalism every year since 1995. Further information (in German)...
