Research interests

Especially in high latitude seas, large areas of the seafloor are virtually uncharted. Mapping these regions provide high-resolution information on depth, seafloor morphology and substrate distribution. As environmental parameters, bathymetric and bathymetry-derived information provide key basic data for a plethora of marine research disciplines.

My particular research interest is in micro-bathymetric habitat mapping with hydroacoustic and photogrammetric sensors mounted on sub-sea vehicles. By combining high-resolution micro-bathymetry with large scale shipborne bathymetry, I analyse the seafloor morphology on variable scales. By doing so, detailed habitat analyses can be integrated in a broader spatial context. In this way, my research contributes to a comprehensive ecosystem approach that is paramount to understand the small scale topographic variation and their impact on habitat distributions and ecology.
