Research interests
My research focuses on mineral dust deposition in the world's oceans, and its characteristics such as deposition fluxes, transport pathways, particle size and shape, geochemical composition, effects on ocean fertilisation, and relation to terrestrial biomarkers.
I'm currently working on the AWI-funded project Dust Iron: Southern Ocean Dust and Iron Fertilisation, to reconstruct dust deposition over past glacial-interglacial cycles in the South Atlantic, South Pacific and Southern Ocean. I'm also involved in reconstructing dust deposition from an 8-myr record recovered during IODP Expedition 383 "Dynamics of the Pacific Antarctic Circumpolar Current" in the South Pacific Ocean.
