The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) welcomed members of the Association for Marine Technology (GMT). The AWI is itself a member of the association for offshore and marine technology, which, among other things, is committed to the transfer of knowledge and technology between science and industry in the marine-maritime field.

The GMT programme "Meet the members" supports the exchange within the member companies and institutions. About 30 members visited the AWI to get a closer look at the research centre.

After a welcome by the deputy AWI Director Dr Uwe Nixdorf and GMT Managing Director Petra Mahnke, Professor Eberhard Sauter (Head of the Technology Transfer Office) outlined AWI's main activities and presented its research sites and infrastructures. He also explained the transfer of knowledge and technology into social and economic application. Afterwards, guests were able to visit the research vessel Heincke, the Centre for Aquaculture Research and the Bionics Unit. In a final get-together, questions were deepened and network contacts extended.

Special points of contact between GMT and AWI are the sustainable development of the Arctic, the cooperation in the fields of marine and polar technology, sensor systems and measurement technology, marine environmental protection, aquaculture and offshore wind energy.
