Centre for Aquaculture Research (ZAF)

The Centre for Aquaculture Research (ZAF) offers modern and diverse aquaculture research facilities. The ZAF contains a series of closed recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), aquaria systems, integration systems, hatchery facilities for controlled larval rearing of aquatic species.

Each individual system is operated using artificial seawater, salinities can be altered and varied at will. Water quality is maintained with mechanical, chemical and biological filtration. Microalgal production facilities including PBR are available. Our tropical glasshouse is perfect for algae research, aquaponics and work with tropical species. The laboratories also offer a huge number of opportunities for research on relevant scientific topics.
